Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t see your question here? Feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Under Washington law, you can see any Physical Therapist under direct access so no you do not need a referral!  However, if you see your OBGYN, midwife, or PCP and they give one to you, please bring that in.

No we do not bill insurance directly but we are “out of network” with all insurance plans and accept cash/card/HSA/FSA payment at the time of service.  We believe in the quality of care and spend an hour with you at each appointment with lower cost appointments and have decided this is more important than being in-network with insurances. Upon your request, we will give you a superbill which is a receipt you can send into your insurance company to get reimbursed for your out of network benefits.  For most insurance plans, this is somewhere around 60-80% reimbursement.

Women of all ages, but specifically women during their pregnancy, post-partum, and through menopause.  We do not treat men at this time.

The pelvic floor is made of bones, ligaments, and muscles in your pelvis that house your uterus, bladder, and rectum. The pelvic floor muscles “support” your organs, “stabilize” your pelvis and lower back, create “sphincteric support” to your urethral and anal sphincters, assist in the “sexual response” and help with vascularization and is used as a “sump pump” to help provide blood flow to your pelvis, hip, and legs.

A thorough subjective evaluation going over why you are here and your symptoms, a physical assessment of your posture/alignment, abdomen, hips, lumbar spine, pelvis with possible internal and external exam of the pelvic floor if needed.  Then I will educate you on your diagnosis, symptoms, and help you to come up with a treatment plan to treat the cause of your symptoms.

No. It will depend on your comfort level, your symptoms, and whether it is needed to help you with your pain and dysfunction. I will never do an internal exam if you are not comfortable but it can give a lot of valuable information and help to diagnose why you are in pain or have the pelvic floor symptoms you do.

It depends. Generally 4-6 appointments are common but depend on how often you come, how regularly you do your exercises, and how long you have been dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Anything you feel comfortable in!  Workout clothes are probably the best but really whatever you feel the most comfortable in, works for us!

Yes! Nursing babies are always welcome and give us a chance to look at your posture/ergonomics and feeding/changing techniques with your baby!  Older kiddos are welcome but may make it harder to treat you effectively.  However, I want this to be one less thing you have to worry about childcare for and would rather you come with kids than not at all.  I get it, I am a mom too!

Yes, absolutely. We love it when partners/spouses come to the appointment as we get to educate them as well.  I usually encourage it for families who want to go over labor breathing/positions during prenatal pelvic floor therapy.

Yes we do!  We are licensed in OR and WA and can treat anyone online in those states.  Online is a great way to still get education/exercises if you aren’t able to make it to our office.

Once scheduled, you will receive an email to our online portal where you can fill out the paperwork online including your history and symptoms.  That is the best way for us to prepare for your appointment. Any instructions from your OBGYN or Midwife is also something you can bring in for your first visit.

Generally I recommend 4-6 weeks for primary healing to take place.  But definitely send us a message as soon as you are ready and we can go over your symptoms and treat you when it’s necessary. Sometimes earlier is helpful if you had a complicated birth or would like exercises to do at home before you come in.

It is very much up to you!  We can understand if you don’t want to come in during your period and we can reschedule your appointment and figure out another time to come in.  However, I am comfortable with treating you any time of the month and we can stay external or focus on the exercise portion of your treatment plan.

Possibly! I recommend any woman who is pregnant or post-partum has one session to assess the abdomen, hips, pelvis, lumbar spine, and pelvic floor as there are always imbalances that occur from carrying/having a baby and can develop into more serious symptoms down the road.  If you aren’t sure, call in for a 15-minute phone consultation!
